Liverpool Arena & Convention Centre

Rainwater management specialists Fullflow have completed the design, manufacturer and installation of a primary and secondary syphonic drainage system on Liverpool’s new Arena and Convention Centre. The multi-million pound development is located on Kings Waterfront which overlooks the River Mersey and the Albert Dock complex. The scheme will transform the area into an international visitor destination with world-class facilities which will accommodate events such as music concerts, children's entertainment and international sporting events.

Fullflow designed the syphonic drainage system to drain a roof area of approximately 20,000m² and was designed to deal with a rainfall intensity of up to 225mm/hr/m². The primary syphonic system installed by Fullflow consisted of 24 downpipes and a total of 54 outlets of which 10 are 56mm PVC coated and 44 are 75mm PVC coated.

Roger Sharples, Project Manager on behalf of Haden Young commented; “On the basis of their reputation, previous experience, technical expertise and competitiveness, Fullflow were the preferred syphonic contractor for this project. The project had its difficulties mainly due to the weather and exposed nature of the site, but with good cooperation these problems were overcome for a successful project”.

Liverpool’s new £146 million Arena and Convention Centre comprises a 10,600 capacity Arena; an auditorium with a capacity of 1,350; a multi-purpose hall of 3,725 sq metres; total exhibition capacity of 7,000 sq metres; and 18 additional meeting rooms. The overall development will be completed in 2015 and will consist of residential units, 18,000 sq metres of offices and 9,000 sq metres of retail and leisure uses.

Fullflow have been involved in a number of projects as part of the Liverpool’s celebration of becoming the European City of Culture 2008. Fullflow has installed a syphonic rainwater drainage system onto the cities new National Museum and has also been involved in the Paradise Project which is a large retail-led mixed use development in Liverpool city centre. The new John Lewis and Debenhams department stores both feature Fullflow’s syphonic rainwater drainage systems.
