Northfield Depot

Location: London
Architect: YJL
Consultant: Roughton London Limited

Working closely with contractors YJL Construction Limited and Roughton London Limited, Fullflow designed a system to remove water from a roof area of 13, 650 square metres into three downpipes, via 64 outlets and 1,300 metres of polyethylene pipe work.

At a specified rainfall intensity of 150mm per hour, the self-priming syphonic system provides a total rainwater collection capacity of 570 litres per second discharging through the 64 syphonic Primaflow® rainwater outlets and discharging into only three down pipes. Rainwater from the roof collects into six internal valley gutters. Gravity systems would typically have required individual down pipes descending from each rainwater outlet, which would then have to be routed through the platforms servicing the nineteen tracks leading into the depot, causing major disruption and increased contract expenditure. A gravity system for this project would have needed something in excess of fifty down pipes, depending upon specification requirements.
