Doncaster Racecourse

Fullflow has recently completed the design, manufacturer and installation of a syphonic drainage system on the new grandstand and conference centre as part of the £32 million refurbishment of Doncaster Racecourse in South Yorkshire. Doncaster is one of the UK’s premier racecourses and the project has transformed the Grade 1 Yorkshire track into one of the most modern and impressive facilities in the country.

The old grandstand, built in 1969, has been replaced by an impressive five-tier structure which includes private hospitality suites, a wide range of catering outlets, bars and luxury dining areas with panoramic views. The new grandstand and conference centre with a combined roof area of approximately 7500m2 required a flexible drainage system which could remove rainwater efficiently from the roof, without compromising the aesthetic appeal of the building.

Fullflow installed a syphonic drainage system which is designed for a maximum rainfall intensity of 270mm/hr and required only 11 downpipes for both grandstand and conference centre. Typically a Fullflow syphonic system uses up to 80% less downpipes, reduces installation time and ground works, offers greater design flexibility and can drain roofs up to 8 times faster than gravity system alternatives.

The impressive five storey grandstand was officially reopened by HRH The Princess Royal on the first day of the Ladbrokes St Leger Festival - Wednesday 12th September – and will attract attendances in excess of 200,000 per year.
