National Museum of Liverpool

Fullflow has won the contract to manufacture, design and install a syphonic rainwater drainage system for the new National Museum of Liverpool. The £68m museum will be one of the world’s leading city museums, reflecting Liverpool’s global significance through its unique geography, history and culture. The new museum will be situated in a new landmark building on the Mann Island site at Pier Head. It will be at the core of the World Heritage Site on Liverpool’s famous waterfront.

The museum required a flexible drainage system which could remove rainwater efficiently from the roof, without compromising the aesthetic appeal of the building. The new museum has a total roof area of 13000m² of which 3500m² will be drained syphonically. Fullflow have designed a syphonic drainage system for the maximum rainfall intensity of 240mm/hr and which requires only 8 downpipes. Typically a Fullflow syphonic system uses up to 80% less downpipes, reduces installation time and ground works, offers greater design flexibility and can drain roofs up to 8 times faster than gravity system alternatives. The new National Museum is another addition to the cities expanding number of projects that will see Liverpool welcome in 2008 as the European Capital of Culture.

Fullflow have been involved in a number of projects as part of the Liverpool’s preparation to become the European City of Culture 2008. Fullflow has installed a syphonic rainwater drainage system onto the cities new £146m Arena and Convention Centre. The project comprises a 10,000 capacity arena; an auditorium with a capacity of 1,350; a multi-purpose hall of 3,600 sq metres; a total exhibition capacity of 7,000 sq metres; and 18 additional meeting rooms. Fullflow was also involved in the Paradise Project which is a large retail-led mixed use development in Liverpool city centre. The new John Lewis and Debenhams department stores both feature Fullflow’s syphonic rainwater drainage systems.

Fullflow boasts an unparalleled level of experience in the field of syphonic drainage having successfully installed over 30,000 systems across the world. Recent completed projects include Stroud College, London St Pancras and Doncaster Racecourse.
