Three of the top six “UK’s Most Loved Modern Buildings” Feature Fullflow Syphonic Drainage Systems
Syphonic drainage specialist Fullflow is proud to have completed installations on three of the top six most loved modern buildings in the UK identified through a recent survey carried out by YouGov for Constructionskills.
The Eden project was the clear winner with a 40% lead ahead of 30 St. Mary Axe (the Gherkin) in 2nd placed. The sector skills council for the construction industry listed the McLaren Technology Centre Surrey (3rd), The Great Court British Museum, London (4th) and Cardiff Millennium Stadium (6th) in the top six of the UK’s best loved modern buildings, all of which have syphonic rainwater management systems designed, manufactured and installed by Fullflow. Fullflow have also installed a syphonic drainage system on the visitor centre at the Eden project.
Chris Pepper, Marketing Manager, Fullflow explains; “Our system enables these iconic buildings to look clean and dynamic, while at the same time ensuring they have the capability to drain water efficiently at high volume... Typically the Fullflow syphonic system offers up to 80% less downpipes, plus fewer outlets than a gravity system alternative. This means the specifier can reduce installation time and cost while still being able to design aesthetically pleasing buildings.”
Unlike traditional roof drainage, which is designed to flow part full, a Syphonic system operates at full capacity, when water is sucked – or syphoned – from the roof down into the drain at high velocity. The Fullflow system allows architects, consultants and contractors alike to specify a lower number of roof outlet drains and have them flow into a single downpipe.
Whereas a conventional outlet is simply a hole set into the lowest point on the roof, into which the water pours, the syphonic drain incorporates an anti-vortex plate that restricts the flow of air, allowing only water to be drawn off the roof. During heavy rainfall the outlet drain fills to above the anti-vortex plate, cutting off air flow into the pipe. This lack of air, coupled with the downward pull of the water creates a vacuum. The drainage pipes then flow at 100% full over the entire system.
Fullflow are market leaders in syphonic drainage, recognised for quality and technical expertise with offices in the UK, France and Spain. Fullflow provide customers with an ISO 9001:2000 certified turnkey solution to rainwater management, from design and manufacture through to installation and project management.
Fullflow boasts an unparalleled level of experience in the field of rainwater management having successfully installed over 30,000 systems across the world. Recent projects include London Heathrow Airport T5, St Pancras Station, The Vauxhall End redevelopment at the Oval, London and Temple Mills Eurostar Depot, East London.
The Fullflow syphonic system provides many benefits including reduced installation time and money savings - up to 80% less downpipes plus fewer outlets are required than a gravity system. Greater design flexibility and aesthetically pleasing structures can be achieved as pipes can be fitted horizontally throughout. A syphonic downpipe can drain up to eight times the flow of an equivalent single gravity downpipe meaning greater performance. Peace of mind is provided as Fullflow’s design, products and installation is supported by a twelve year design warranty.
