State-of-the-art development features Fullflow syphonic drainage system
Syphonic drainage specialist Fullflow recently designed, manufactured, and installed a syphonic drainage system for the Qube, 90 Whitfield Street, London. When complete the modern office and retail development will provide over 100,000 sq ft of light, flexible workspace in a striking glass cube, plus 10,000 sq ft of retail space fronting Tottenham Court Road.
To keep the visual appeal of the building intact, a flexible drainage system was required; one which removes rainwater efficiently from the roof without compromising the aesthetic appeal of the building. The solution was to use Fullflow’s syphonic drainage system, which typically requires far fewer downpipes than a traditional gravity system, up to 80% less. The vast reduction in downpipe quantity provides design flexibility and subsequently, buildings which are unspoilt by numerous unsightly downpipes.
The Fullflow syphonic system requires less downpipes due to the syphonic action, which enables rainwater to be drained at high velocity and volume. Additionally, far less underground work is required due to a reduction in downpipes.
Fullflow’s syphonic drainage system provides design flexibility, as pipework is routed horizontally due to the syphonic action, whereas pipework for a traditional system relies on a gradient to drain rainwater. Because there is no need for gradient with a syphonic system, pipework can be routed around obstacles and discharge location is not restricted.
Located at the corners of Tottenham Court Road, Maple Street and Whitfield Street the dazzling new addition is due for completion summer 2007.
